Auditions

The Choir always welcomes new members, and is presently actively seeking tenors and basses.

Our Musical Director, Stephen Doughty, will make a brief musical assessment of each applicant but don't let that put you off - he's quite nice.  Contact details are on the last page of the website.

Rehearsals

The Choir meets once a week on a Monday evening during the singing season - September to June. The usual venue is the Town House in Haddington, with occasional rehearsals at Macmerry Village Hall. Rehearsals run from 7.30 to 9.30pm with a short coffee break.

Occasionally we hold open rehearsals when non-members are welcome to come along and see whether they fancy joining us. These are advertised in the East Lothian press and will be posted on the Home/Latest News section of this website. They are usually at the beginning of the season, in September. If you wish to attend a rehearsal outwith an open session, please contact the Secretary (see Contacts page).

Social Scene

The latest annual dinner was held at the Mallard in Gullane in early June, and was a delirious night of Baccanalian carousing and loveliness. It was a beautifully sunny evening, so we were able to sit in the gardens and  discuss the recent concert and looming assessments from the shade of fragrant trees as swallows serenaded us from the eaves. The food was so nice that when the time came for the puddings, what had been a relatively civilised jostling in the queue became a disgraceful rugby scrum by the pavlova, in which the worst offenders were the first tenors. Entertainment was provided by various choir members with songs both comic and rude.  Many thanks to the Mallard and Danusia Melvin for organising a highly enjoyable evening.

Every few years the choir organises a tour to another country, usually continental Europe but occasionally England. Tours tend to involve a couple of concerts and perhaps organised excursions to local areas of interest. All choir members are invited to come on tour, and the committee organises fundraising events to offset costs as much as possible. Partners/spouses can travel with the group if there are spaces available. At the moment the committee is considering a tour for Spring 2011.
