xmas-2013

Christmas is coming!

We look forward to seeing you at our annual Christmas Concert. This year we are pleased to welcome back Polwarth Brass after their fabulous performance last year. We advise that you buy your tickets early as last year was a sell-out!

The new season has begun!

The 2013-14 season is now underway. We are pleased to announce our exciting new programme for the year.

This Christmas we are being joined by Polwarth Brass to bring some seasonal cheer to Haddington. We will be singing two of Poulenc’s Christmas Motets, The Sycamore Tree by Britten, music by Scottish composers Cecilia McDowell and Frikki Walker, and of course our favourite carols for everyone to join in.

We will be singing Poulenc’s Gloria, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine and other French pieces at our Spring concerts in Greyfriar’s and in Haddington.

In the summer we will be featuring some famous opera choruses including the Humming Chorus and the Grand March from Aida.

In addition to this exciting programme we are also looking forward to welcoming a choir from Munich, the Nymphenburger Kantatenchor. We will be singing in a joint concert with them in June 2014.

If you are interested in joining the choir this season then why not come along to one of the open rehearsals this month? You are welcome to join us on 16th and 23rd September to try-out the choir and see if it is what you are looking for. For more information please see the ‘contact us’ page on the website. We look forward to meeting you!

A couple of dates for your diary….

After a wonderful 2012/13 season the choir are now looking forward to starting rehearsals again in the autumn. The first rehearsal after the summer break is on Monday 9th September. We will be starting to rehearse for our annual Christmas concert which this year takes place on Sunday 8th December in St Mary’s, Haddington. Once again we will be joined by the fantastic Polwarth Brass. One not to be missed, so put it in your diaries now!

And now for something a little different……!

After our very moving and solemn spring concerts the Garleton Singers are pleased to announce our plans for the summer concert. We are performing a much lighter programme which includes favourites such as music from Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Showboat and West Side Story as well as a performance of Bob Chilcott’s ‘A Little Jazz Mass’. Soloists will be drawn from the members of the choir, so please do come a long and give them your full support! The concert is on Monday 27th May at 7.30pm and you can buy tickets hereSummer Concert Flyer

March Concerts

spring 2013 concertThe Garleton Singers are very pleased to announce the names of our soloists for the two concerts in March. They are Claire Evans (soprano), Lucilla Graham (alto), Ian Darling (tenor) and Aaron O’Hare (bass). They are joining with the choir to sing Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Stabat Mater. Please come along to Greyfriar’s Kirk in Edinburgh on the 16th March or to St Mary’s in Haddington on the 17th March to enjoy listening to these two fabulous pieces of choral music. Tickets are available now via the link on the top of this page.

New year message

Happy new year! We hope 2013 will carry on as well as 2012 finished for The Garleton Singers. The choir is still relishing the big hit we registered with our Christmas Concert. You may recall that we handed out a questionnaire at the concert? This showed that 95% of the sell-out audience rated the performance as good or excellent – thank you! We also got a wonderful review in the East Lothian Courier.

We intend to build on that success in our March concerts. Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ speaks for itself as an outstanding choral  classic. Haydn’s ‘Stabat Mater’ is poignant and tuneful, with the exciting final movement taking us ‘in glory to Paradise’. Our venues of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh and St Mary’s in Haddington are well suited for these powerful and emotive works. The choir will be accompanied by a full orchestra and four excellent professional soloists.

Early rehearsals are going well, so why not put March 16th (Greyfriars) or March 17th (Haddington) in your diaries? Or better still you can book online now via the links on top left of this page.
