Musical Director

Stephen Doughty hails from Fife and studied at Napier College and Edinburgh University before graduating with a Master's Degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow in 1997.  As an accompanist he works regularly with the Belfast Philharmonic Choir, the National Girls Choir and other choirs that make up the National Youth Choir of Scotland.  He is also Organist and Director of Music at St John's Church, Princes Street in Edinburgh and regularly gives recitals and accompanies other choirs on the organ.

As a conductor Stephen has conducted a wide range of choral music from folk song to large-scale works including Elijah, Carmina Burana and Verdi's Requiem.  He has studied both choral and orchestral conducting at Dartington and Canford International Summer Schools and was the joint holder of the first Sir Alexander Gibson Memorial Scholarship in Choral Conducting with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus. As a player of harpsichord and organ continuo he plays with all the professional Scottish Orchestras and the Ulster Orchestra; recent concerts have included Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Leon Coates' Concertino for Harpsichord and Strings. In addition Stephen is an Examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Friends of the Garleton Singers

You don't have to sing to appreciate choral music and a number of kind and interested people in East Lothian have joined the Friends of the Garleton Singers to support the Choir in its activities. These generous souls consider that the music we make contributes towards the cultural richness of our area and in return for an annual donation of £18 (individual) or £30 (couples) they receive news about the choir, priority seating at our concerts and the unreserved gratitude of us all. If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Garleton Singers please contact Patricia Savin, tel: 01620 892013, email: psavin@btinternet.com.
